Boost charging - Everything you need to know

What is Boost?

Boost is a feature in the ev.energy app that lets you charge your car immediately at the maximum speed your charger supports, instead of waiting for your scheduled smart charge to begin. Press Boost and your car starts charging right away. End Boost and the app returns automatically to smart scheduling.

When should I use Boost?

  • You need more charge than your overnight session provided
  • Your plans changed and you are leaving earlier than your ready-by time
  • You want to top up quickly before a longer journey
  • You are checking that your charger is physically working correctly

How to start and stop a Boost session

  1. Confirm the app recognises your car is plugged in at home and that Smart Charging is turned on
  2. Tap the Boost button. Charging begins immediately.
  3. To stop, tap End Boost. Smart charging resumes automatically.

Note
Boost sessions do not count toward reward points. Only scheduled smart charges of 7 kWh or more earn rewards.

Why is the Boost button not visible?

Boost only appears when all three of the following are true: your car is plugged in at home, smart charging is switched on in the app, and a smart charging session is active or scheduled. If any condition is not met, the button is hidden. Check the Smart tab to confirm.

Does Boost cost more?

ev.energy does not apply any surcharge for using Boost. However, if you are on a time-of-use tariff such as Octopus Agile, charging during peak hours via Boost will incur peak-rate charges from your energy supplier. For cost-optimised charging, use the scheduled smart charge feature overnight wherever possible.
