Our focus so far has been to provide value to our users who smart charge with solar panels with a software-only solution. But this means at this early stage the Beta programme still has some limitations.

  1. Currently, there is no in-app display to partner with the software solar solution. Nothing in the app will show that your car is pulling energy from your solar array. But don't worry. If you're on the Beta programme, we will solar charge your car when it's the cheapest and greenest. Our design and engineering teams are hard at work on creating an in-app display.

    This is something that we hope to roll out to the app in the near future!

  2. We can't yet vary the charge rate to match your solar output. If your solar array doesn't produce enough energy to match your charge rate, we'll use grid energy and solar energy to charge. For example, let's say your car charges at 7.2kW and your solar array produces 3.6kW. In this case, 50% of the electricity comes from the grid and 50% comes from your solar array. But this mixture of solar and grid imports may not be the cheapest option for you. If it's cheaper to charge at night on your off-peak rate, that's what we'll do.

    However, if you would like to be able to solar match now you can purchase a charger from our hardware partner Indra and use their excellent solar matching feature.

    Remember: If you if you have a VW or a Tesla you will be able to limit the charge rate on your EV.

  3. We don't take into account the house "base load" from things such as lighting, fridges, TV etc. This means that we can't reserve energy to use in your home. If you're concerned about this, you can set your array size to 75% of its actual size in the app. Visit account > Your energy supply > Solar > Your array. As we integrate with more devices around the house, we can over time build a better picture of what the base load looks like and factor that into our algorithm.

  4. It's possible that the prices in the app might not accurately reflect how much it costs to charge. If you see any discrepancies please contact support.
